Brand and design agency, Fifteen Design have been working very closely with a new local brewery ‘North Star’ over the past few months.
They came to us back in early 2011 with an idea for their new ales they were brewing up in a local Ilkeston brewery. We were thrilled to be involved and were really excited to get stuck in with the project. It was later on in the year when Dawn and Richard came back to us with their brand name – ‘North Star’.
We put pen to paper and started sketching up ideas for the logo. We nailed it with a traditional style typeface combined with a shooting star. The colour scheme is brown to fit in with an old style theme we were going for with the brand. The brand style combines an olde world and nautical theme after the North Star team shared with us the name of their first beer to be released – ‘Helmsman’.
Once the logo and branding was decided, North Star asked us to get cracking on the beer pump clips to be installed in the pubs their beers were being released in. The first beer was called Helmsman, the pump clip was to set the bar for the rest of the beers to come so we had to get this one bang on! We think the final outcome really reflects the theme of the North Star brand and also the beer quality.
Once ‘Helmsman’ was released we took a trip to the North Star brewery for ‘research’ (or ‘cheeky beer testing’). We really enjoyed getting to know the process of the beer making, and since the start of the project the brewery was really getting busy after a great response from the first beer.
North Star were soon ready to release two more beers, ‘Astronomer’ and ‘Pathfinder’, both of which followed the template of the first pump clip but had new colours schemes and bespoke illustrations. Again these have received a really positive response!
North Star is now rolling out across many of the local pubs but we reckon it won’t be long before they’re taking the country by storm! Watch out for North Star in your pubs in the near future!
