At Fifteen, we are passionate about charity work. So, for the third year running we are participating in Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child is a campaign run by Samaritans Purse UK, a international charitable organisation who provide aid across the world to those who need it most since 1970. If you haven’t heard of them before, you may have heard of Operation Christmas Child, a campaign that runs every Christmas period, commonly through schools, churches and business. The initiative asks for participants to pack a shoebox full of goodies for children to receive over the Christmas period. The shoeboxes are flown all over the world to less fortunate areas such as Syria, Macedonia and Serbia. To date, Operation Christmas Child have delivered over one hundred million shoe boxes, and we just wanted to add to their total!
Fifteen have previously filled shoeboxes in 2014 and 2013. We decided that we would again fill 30 shoeboxes this year to send across the world. Everybody in the office played their part, whether that was shopping for items, wrapping the shoeboxes or filling them with all kinds of exciting gifts!
The items ranged from big and small. There were essential items such as soap and toothpaste that we may take for granted, but these children are extremely grateful for. Of course it couldn’t all be serious, and we included lots of fun items for all ages like dolls, colouring books, slinkies and whoopie cushions! Each box is allocated to a certain age and gender child, these went from ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14, so we were careful to make sure that the items were appropriate.
Once we had completed the shoebox filling, we took them to our arranged drop off point at Larkfields Infant School, where the children had already developed a massive pile of shoeboxes themselves! In total the number of shoeboxes sent from the school was over 120!
We’re thrilled that we could be just a small part in such a fantastic scheme that touches so many lives every year. We hope to get involved again for many years to come!
