Aquarius are a Midlands based organisation and charity.
Their goal is to help people overcome the harms caused by drug, gambling and alcohol. They offer a free and confidential service which is vital to help not just people in rehabilitation, but also offer support to families, provide information and offer group sessions.
Our work started with Aquarius in 2013 after pitching for their new website design and build.
Aims & Ambitions
Aquarius were looking to redesign their website which tackled with the sensitive but vitally important issue of helping people recover from the affects of alcohol, drug and gambling addiction.
After pitching and winning the project our meetings with Aquarius made it clear that the website was not only required to be user friendly from a front-end perspective, but also managable from the client. We implemented a WordPress build to ensure that the site was as easy to use as possible.
Aquarius’ previous rebrand gave us room to really experiment with the design and we were concious about keeping the website accessible to all walks of life, from teens to pensioners. The site has to appeal to a diverse audience.
Delivery & Concept
What we were keen to deliver with Aquarius, was a simple structure to the website, where they could easily add and edit pages themselves. With this in mind, we focused on making the homepage the main hub that would lead to important areas such as their forum, finding a centre and donations. Then from there the page templates were kept easy to manipulate and add to. The wordpress platform used was perfect for the team at Aquarius to work with as it is a vastly user friendly CMS.
Iconography and colour coding was used throughout the site to indicate which area of the main topics (alcohol, drugs and gambling) you were within. Along with our use of mega menus, the navigation of the site is made easy for a visitor to find exactly what they are looking for.
Once we had completed the website, the team at Aquarius were keen to use the characters we’d created in other ways across their marketing. One idea was to use them in an introduction video to be posted on their YouTube channel and various other outlets online.
While Aquarius worked on a finalising their script, we started with the storyboarding and completing the initial stages of the artwork based on their idea to convey a persons journey through recovery through the metaphor of climbing a mountain.
Once we completed the video, we commisioned a voice over artist to recite the script. It was important to find the correct style of voice with a calming and smooth tone to their voice.
We also included some infographic slides to break up the story into managable chunks. The video is a fantastic representation of a users journey with Aquarius, starting with the terror at the bottom of the mountain, taking the right path, urged on by family support (represented rather nicely by the dog in this case!) haveing a stumble but ultimately being helped on the last leg by Aquarius. The end is a great tribute to the success of all who have been helped by Aquarius on their path to recovery.Back to Case Studies
