The Brief & Vision
nmcn (formally North Midland Construction) required a new website that was fully responsive and built using the best UX design and development practices and techniques.
The website needed to be built within an easy-to-use content management system (CMS), that would give the team at nmcn the ability to edit all areas of the website with ease in the future, so that they can update content at will.
The website also needed to be styled with nmcn’s new branding and, along with the findings from our workshop, cater towards their target markets with the aim to move them up into the next client bracket within their industry.
nmcn is a prestigious company with a strong heritage in the construction industry. It stands at an exciting point in its journey.
nmcn specialise in delivering built environment and national infrastructure projects across the UK, working alongside their customers to deliver these projects. They have specialist teams allowing nmcn to bring a range of innovation and skillsets to all the sectors they work in.
After going through a rebrand in November 2018 from North Midland Construction PLC to nmcn they have their sights set on bigger and better things with the company moving forward into a bright future.

What We Did
We completed a digital workshop with the team at nmcn to better understand the company, and deliver a brand and digital strategy, that helps set out nmcn’s challenges around the old website, and how we could look at building on the current site structure to enhance the website, and regenerate the look and feel in line with the new brand, delivering the information in a fun new way, and catering towards their multiple user journeys and customer touch points.
After we completed the workshop with nmcn, we started to work on a video concept that would be presented to the nmcn team at an event in early September, the video needed to demonstrate where nmcn have come from, and where they are heading towards, all set within their new brand and look.
We took the time to storyboard the video and script and then moved forward to create the video and voice over to present something that would generate excitement, and allow nmcn to use this across the website once the site had been launched. It’s now available to watch on YouTube, as well as the homepage and about page of the website, but you can also watch it here.
One core requirement for the website was to make it editable for the nmcn team moving forward, allowing them to easily amend text, images and add content to the website with ease.
We developed a website that allows them to do just that, and more, using the new brand and style, we created a website that delivers information in an easy to understand manner, and really helps them to deliver their core messaging and identity.
The website design is really clean and easy to understand, with a strong flow and user journey, we’ve used interesting design choices, to bring something different to the site, to help nmcn stand out against the competitors within the sector, as well as attract potential new team members to join the team at nmcn.
Where suitable, we’ve introduced neat little hover effects and light boxes to reveal further information about key elements like within the sector pages as well as create flexible case study formats where the team can utilise as much or as little of the elements as they may need to demonstrate their work to the wider public.
What They Said
We first came across Fifteen Design after researching a number of local website agencies. After setting up an initial meeting we knew they were the people to help us in achieving a modern and industry-leading online presence. We required a clean look and feel to our website and wanted to improve the overall user experience for potential clients, current employees and to attract potential employees.
From our initial meeting and throughout the whole process Fifteen have been fantastic, respecting our own vision for the website while providing us with creative/fresh ideas. As well as creating the website, Fifteen worked with us on our brand launch video. A video presented at events, to our colleagues and customers, to reveal our new identity. The video demonstrated where we have come from since our founding in 1946 to where we are today. The video was a huge success and generated a lot of excitement, while showcasing our new brand and look. Fifteen worked really hard to ensure the video would create a huge impact, they understood our requirements, keeping in regular contact to discuss the transcript, voiceover and graphics.
