So what is SEO Core Fundamentals? SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), also known as the organic channel of digital marketing is a set of optimisation best practices to make a website more readable and findable for search engines; by optimising the web. The four pillars of SEO are On-Page, Off-Page, Technical and User Experience.

Let’s go through some basics and the SEO core fundamentals.

What is on-page SEO and why do we use it?

On-Page refers to the websites content, such as; a pages HTML titles, internal links and meta data, which include meta title, meta description and keyword density.

It is the practise of optimising website pages for specific, researched keywords in order to earn organic traffic by improving search visibility and a websites rankings in search engine results pages.

This type of SEO helps search engines analyse your website and the content so it is able to identify and show relevant content to the searcher. It is important that you can understand a consumer or customers possible intent when searching the web, putting yourself in the mind of the searcher also helps when researching keywords that can be used to optimise.

Google is constantly updating their algorithm to deliver search results that meet that user’s needs. As Google’s algorithm updates, so should your website, on-page needs analysis and refinement to gain visible results.

What is off-page SEO and why do we use it?

Unlike on-site SEO, off-page looks beyond the website. It covers all areas within SEO that take place outside of your website, such as link and citation building, content marketing and social media. This type of SEO builds your sites authority, and helps you to rank higher. Without this, your site won’t be able to outrank others with higher authority.

Off-page is one of the most important parts of a successful marketing strategy.

What is technical SEO and why is it needed?

Technical SEO refers to website and server optimisations that help search engine access, crawl, interpret and index your site more effectively, and this helps improve your organic rankings.

This SEO type does not have anything to do with the websites content, but mainly optimising the sites in infrastructure.

This pillar of SEO helps to enhance crawling by covering the requirements of search engines.

What is user experience?

UX is about creating an effective user experience, leading to great user engagement which plays a key role in your SEO rankings.

Things that can effect UX can include website menus, headers and titles, such as; when a menu design is confusing, this can be hard to navigate a website and it is likely the user will leave the site because they cannot find what they were looking for easily.

Load times and responsiveness of the website can lead to users leaving before the landing page has loaded and this can negatively effect your rankings.

Aspects such as; reducing file sizes, optimising photo resolutions, CSS and JavaScript file optimisation can help load time.
