As part of our year of well-being, we are all going to be making an extra effort to keep healthier in the workplace. That doesn’t mean we won’t allow ourselves a treat every once in a while, but there are plenty of others things we can all be improving upon to improve our health.
Here are just a few ways that we and yourself can be keeping healthier in the workplace;
A lack of water can lead to headaches and fatigue, which is the last thing you want when you’re at work. Keeping a glass or bottle of water on your desk, at all times, will encourage you to keep drinking. If it’s there, you are far more likely to drink it. Try and avoid drinking too many sugary and milky tea or coffee, instead opt for a great herbal tea as they are still able to keep you hydrated and healthy.
Go For A Walk
Either during your lunch break or even just at regular points throughout the day, make sure you get up and move from your desk. Opting to walk to your local cafe or shop instead of getting into the car will give great benefits to your body. Doctors recommend that you take part in at least 30minutes of exercise per day, which you could quite easily do during your lunch, giving yourself more time to just chill out in the evenings after work.
Not only will the exercise do you good, but getting the fresh air and sunlight will help keep you more relaxed and increase your Vitamin D.
Prepare Your Lunch
It’s so easy to get into a habit of going out and buying lunches, and being tempted by the not so healthy options. If you spend a bit of time either the night before or in the morning before you head out to work, to make yourself a healthier options. There are tonnes of healthy lunch recipes online, especially on Pinterest.
Start A Club
Get a fitness club up and running within your office, at Fifteen we’ve got our run club and we also try to organise regular basketball or other team sports to keep ourselves active after work. Something like a running club is completely free, just get a good route planned out and you’re sorted.
You could also set up a food club, we’ve recently set up a fruit club, where we make sure the fruit bowl is nice and full.
Take The Stairs
If you’re in a multi-storey office and have the luxury of lifts, make the extra effort to use the stairs more often than the lift. You’re going to be working your muscles so much more, and it will also help to stretch you out after being sat at your desk for hours.
Steer From Sugary Snacks
I know from personal experience that if I’ve got naughty snacks in my drawers or if there’s cake in the staff kitchen, I will want to eat it. It’s fine to treat yourself on the occasion but steer away from bingeing, stress eating and having them on a regular basis.
