Grimsby Auditorium approached us back in August to give their website a vibrant new lease of life. After previously being part of multiple ticketing companies, they have never had their own website, and on merging with Lincs Inspire this year it was decided that now was the time. Their previous holding page offered no information about the venue, and lacked personalitiy, it was time that Grimsby was given their own identity as a stand alone venue.
The venue offers many different types of events and entertainment from conferences, sporting events and musiclas to live music conerts and more the website needed to display all of these in a interactive and easy to use manner.
Grimsby Auditorium wanted to stand out, and be known as a stand alone venue.
Having their own identity and making it work across their online and printed mediums was vital. Without straying too far from their existing logo, we tightened up the typography and device, plus we gave Grimsby their own identifying colour – hot pink. A colour that is sure to be noticed and also gives a nod to Lincs Inspire (Grimsby Auditorium’s parent company).
Web Design & Development
The website was designed with a primary focus on guiding the user through making a purchase with ease.
We made sure that the design of the site allowed for a focus on the imagery of the shows and events held at Grimsby Auditorium. The mainly monotone colour scheme of the site allows for the variety of imagery to shine through. From the homepage there is always a place where the user can access a show, we used a slideshow on the initial page land as a place for the client to highlight certain events. Below, there is also an area which shows events by date, with the latest appearing first. Both of these areas push the user forward to either the “What’s On” listing page or an individual event listing.
Within the show page itself, we made sure that there was more than 1 call to action to purchase tickets, so the user has multiple opportunities to convert. We also have included an area within the event listing for Grimsby Auditorium to recommend other shows that the user may be interested in called “You May Also Like”.
Integrating with the ticketing software that Grimsby Auditorium uses was vital, and to be able to offer the user a checkout system that was included within the framework of their new website was needed in order to encourage users to keep on browsing after they’ve purchased their tickets.
It was also imperative that the process is as easy as possible for the Auditorium themselves, as they make changes and updates to the site on a daily basis.
Whilst the software that they use doesn’t offer an API to fully integrate the system into the website, it was important to enable the two systems to link up using their ShortName system. We completed this using a framework that doesn’t see the user leave the Grimsby Auditorium site, which gives the website a much more trustworthy feel, rather that pushing the user to an external website.Back to Case Studies
